What OFSTED want to see in MFL from 2012

(18)
Presentation revisiting the OFSTED report on MFL from 2011 and looking at the 'Outstanding' criteria for MFL subject inspections from the OfSTED guidance for subject inspections in MFL from January 2012. May also be useful for MFL departments preparing for whole-school inspections.

Plenaries TO GO

(2)
A set of plenaries adapted largely from ideas uploaded by mikegershon, with additions from myself and my colleague at Gordano, Ruth Jones. The adapted slides have (i) been given a makeover and (ii) been re-phrased so that they all address the students directly and are thus ready for classroom use, hence 'Plenaries TO GO'.

Assessment for Learning in MFL

(3)
Resources from a North Somerset workshop on MFL I ran with Karen Canham. The Powerpoint could easily be adapted for Departmental CPD. The first Word doc contains questions for the card sort on the Powerpoint, but could be done as a diamond nine. The second Word doc contains some work to mark. (!)
8 Way Thinking / Multiple Intelligences

8 Way Thinking / Multiple Intelligences

(3)
This interactive presentation is designed to elicit a range of questions from pupils at the start of a topic. It incorporates Ian Gilbert's 8 Way Thinking ideas (based on Gardener's Multiple intelligences) to ensure breadth of thinking. Within each of the 8 intelligences the questions are sequenced to ensure depth of thinking too. The questions pupils generate can be used to inform your planning and / or provide direction for pupils who finish the work you have set and / or ideas for homework.

MFL Assembly for European Day of Languages

(3)
A sequence of slides featuring photos of celebrities. Pupils have to suggest what the pairs or groups of celebrities on each slide have in common. The final slide features all the photos used so far and pupils then have to suggest what they ALL have in common. To illustrate what they all have in common, show them the youtube video, accessed via the link below, in which every one of them uses a foreign language. There is a mini-script on the ppt.

MFL and Bloom's Taxonomy

Bloom's Taxonomy: Plenary Tool

Bloom's Taxonomy: Plenary Tool

(2)
Plenary tool to help students reflect on the level of thinking that has been required of them in the lesson. The first slide acts as a homepage for the plenary. Ask students to choose a number. Click on one of the numbers and it will hyperlink you to a plenary question. Click on the 'back' button to return to the homepage.

Boys and MFL

(1)
Handout from a workshop I ran on Boys and MFL. The research and the suggestions are, however, pretty generic.
Assembly: DREAMS

Assembly: DREAMS

(2)
Notes are provided on the slides. You will need a copy of Martin Luther King's' I have a dream' speech. It can be downloaded from Youtube if necessary.

Assembly: Is it OK to make mistakes?

Assembly: Is it OK to make mistakes?

(0)
Designed as an MFL assembly, but has a more universal point, and could be delivered by any teacher who can pronounce the Polish for 'Hello'. If you can't, it's not that hard to find someone who can teach you. I have added a mini-script to the Powerpoint.
What are things worth?
petermorris2001petermorris2001

What are things worth?

(0)
Sequence of slides showing things that are valued highly in monetary terms. Ask students to speculate as to the value of each object, before clicking to reveal the value. Finally, ask them to tell you what they value that doesn't cost anything. Did this with Year 7 and Year 8, but I suspect it would work OK with any year group.
